Public Health Emergency Contact

The Health Protection Agency is a Category 1 Responder under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004. The HPA provides specialist advice and support to the emergency services and NHS staff. Specialist advice for these agencies can be gained via:

Infectious Disease: 020 8200 4400 or 020 8200 6868
Poisons: Members of the public should contact their GP, A&E Dept or NHS Direct: Health professionals should use 0844 892 0111
Emergency response (accidental or deliberate release or exposure): 01980 612100 (ask for the ERD Duty Officer)

For professional use only: If you wish to discuss or obtain advice on a subject on which the HPA has expertise out of office hours, and you are unsure of which department to contact and their out of hours number, please contact the Emergency Preparedness and Response Switchboard on 01980 612100 and ask for the ERD Duty Officer who will be able to provide the on-call contact for the relevant part of the HPA.
