Carbon monoxide residential inspection aid for environmental health professionals

Around 50 people die each year in the UK from accidental exposure to high levels of carbon monoxide (CO) and hundreds more have their health compromised by exposure to lower levels of CO.

To address these issues, the Health Protection Agency and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health have produced a flowchart to help Environmental Health Practitioners (EHP) establish whether occupants of residential premises might be at risk from CO.

As well as helping EHPs identify residential premises where CO could be present, it also recommends actions to take if the presence of CO is suspected. It provides key telephone numbers for services providing further advice and practical assistance to protect occupants and others who might be at risk.
