National Surveillance Programmes
The HCAI & AMR Department of the Centre for Infections runs national surveillance programmes to collect epidemiological data on healthcare associated infections (HCAI) and antimicrobial resistance.
Surveillance Programmes include:
European-wide Surveillance
The HCAI & AMR department at the HPA coordinates UK data for the European Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance network (EARS-Net) which collects data on selected organisms enabling rates of antimicrobial resistance to be compared across Europe. EARS-Net is coordinated and funded by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). The HCAI & AMR department contributes England’s Surgical Site Infection data to the Healthcare-associated Infections Surveillance Network (HAI-Net) to enable inter-country comparisons of SSI rates.
