Serratia species

Serratia species are rod-shaped bacteria that are present in the environment and are infrequently found in the human intestine.

Serratia marcescens primarily causes infections in insects. In man it is an occasional cause of urinary tract, wound and bloodstream infections.

Serratia infections tend to be associated with critical care units.
