Sexually Transmitted Infections Annual Data

STI Annual Data Tables

Public Health England (PHE) collects data on sexual health services and sexually transmitted infections (STI) diagnosed in genito-urinary medicine (GUM) clinics and other clinical and community-based settings in England. The data provide information on trends in STI diagnoses over the past ten years and the numbers and rates of diagnoses by sex, age, ethnic group, sexual risk and geographical distribution. Trends on the provision of GUM services, including sexual health screening and vaccinations, are also presented.

1. STI Report

The report, Sexually transmitted infections and chlamydia screening in England, 2012, in PHE’s Health Protection Report, presents the most recent information on trends in STI diagnoses and a summary of chlamydia screening activity in England. This annual publication provides useful background for interpreting patterns of STIs in England and their implications for programme planning and public health policy.

2. STI data tables

The tables below present selected trends in STI diagnoses and sexual health service provisions in England over the last ten years, with greater detail from 2009 through 2012. All tables are available in both Excel and PDF formats.

Data are presented by service area or area of patient residence. Service area data represent data from people accessing services in England, even if they are not England residents (i.e., data may include people who are resident in Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, or abroad). Residence area data represent data based on where people live (i.e., not necessarily where they access services), thus only data for people residing in England are included in England residence data tables.

Table Guide:

Please review the 2012 Table Guide and Table of Contents (PDF, 62 KB) for details on STI data table contents. Further details on the contents of each table are provided in the Title, Notes, and STI Code Groups pages of the table.
